Description:

Origin: Asia                                              Temperature: 22c/ 28c, 18c at night       Humidity: 50% to 80%.                          Lifespan: Females upto 2 years, Males upto 18 months

Feeding

L1/L2 Nymphs: should be fed on D.melanogaster fruit flies.                              L3/L4 Nymphs: should be fed on D. hydei fruit flies.                                                                      L5/L6 Nymphs: should be fed on Green bottle flies and Blue bottle flies.                                         L7 Nymphs/ Adults: should be fed on large prey items such as locusts and large cockroache.        Nymphs should be fed every other day.        Adults should be fed every 5 days

Housing

 like all mantids, house in an enclosure at least 3 times the size of the mantis in hight and 2 time the size of the mantis in width.

Size

Females grow up to 10cm, males up to 8.5cm

Sexing

when it comes to sexing mantids, females have 6 segments on their abdomen where as males have 8 segments on their abdomen.                      L5 males and above are smaller and thinner, the eyespot on the inside of the arm (coxa) is black. Male adults are smaller and thinner, they also have long thin antennas the upper side of the abdomen is red. The wings are longer then the abdomen.                                                                Females L5 and above are bigger then males, eyespots on the inside of the arm (coxa) is red sometimes with a black circle in the middle. Female adults are bigger and wider then males bigger abdomens, with short and thin antennas also female adults wings are shorter then their abdomen.                                          

Moulting

Mantids moult a number of times during their life. Make sure the enclosure has enough vertical space for them to hang during moults. They may refuse food a day or two before moulting.Do not handle them immediately after moulting as the exoskeleton takes up to 48 hours to harden after moulting to prevent mismoults mist at least twice a day.
